The subject of this image is 3 Cheerios on a plate. To edit this image I desaturated it and cropped the edges so that the only background, other than the plate, was a small amount of the table. I also increased the contrast so the Cheerios had more definition. An element of design in this image is texture. There is a lot of texture in the Cheerios which help make the image more interesting because if the Cheerios had no texture there would not be as much depth in the image. A principle of design in this image is a pattern. There is a pattern in the flowers on the plate as well as in the group of Cheerios. My image uses grouping in the cereal. By including 3 pieces of cereal instead of one there is a more interesting subject while still showing the message of the composition. My image also showcases high key lighting. With less color, the image seems to be dark but in fact, it is quite bright. You can see the brightness in the plate. Here you can see the reflection of the natural lighting. This image is trying to show issues with eating disorders. Because the plate is nice you know that the person eating the paltry meal is not poor. Which leads you to the conclusion that the person is choosing to eat this small amount of insufficient food. This project doesn’t really relate to m life because I have never suffered from an eating disorder, but I do think it is a really important topic that people need to be more aware. Especially teens because I feel like many teens, at least at our school, do not approve of anyone who struggles with issues that are not “normal.” If I could re-do this project I would take this same image but from a straight on point of view and take another image of a plate piled with food. Then I would put the two image side-by-side to show both ends of the eating disorder spectrum.
