Feet

Kneel

Artist StatementThe subject of this image is a boy praying. To create this image I laid on the ground below his feet and angled the camera up so the viewer could tell that he was praying. To edit this image I made it black and white. Then I lowered the brightness and upped the contrast. This image uses texture to add more detail to the image. The lines in his feet add interesting detail. The contrast between the background and the feet creates interesting layers to the image.
This image uses selective focus to put the focus on the feet. It also uses grouping in his toes. The selective focus helps to maintain the main focus on the feet, but the background still conveys the meaning of the image. The grouping helps to make the image more interesting because there is not much detail in the background. When I first thought of my concentration I wanted it to be focused on graveyards, but during this project, I decided to change it to grief.
To many people, it is hard to see the meaning of this image because they are not me. This image shows grief because of a story my dad told me. After my grandfather died, his neighbor came to his funeral. There was a kneeling pad in front of his box of ashes. His neighbor came and kneeled in front of the box resting his hands on the box. To me, that is what this image is showing.
