Glass and Transparency

Looking Glass

Gym

The subject of this image is a man standing in a gym. To create this image I had my dad stand in the gym at his school and face away from me. To edit the photo I decreased the light and turned the image black and white. I also decreased the exposure and highlights, then increased the contrast. An element of design used in this image texture. By increasing the contrast the wood planks on the floor stand out more create a unique texture that helps with balance the amount of negative space that would be there. A principle of design used in this image is a pattern. There are many patterns in this image. There is a pattern in the wall, the floor, and the mats on the wall. One composition technique used in this image is low key lighting. This technique is important to the image because it helps to convey the meaning and story behind the image. Another composition technique is angle down. By having a slight downward tilt in the image you get the feeling that you are an outsider looking in on this person. I had another idea for this image but by the time either of my parents got home after school, two nights in a row, it was already dark outside so I could not take the landscape part of what was going to be my image. The meaning of this image is dedication. By using the gym setting you get to see that this person is working on something. By using low key lighting you get the feeling that this image was taken after everyone else had left, which shows dedication. I don’t mind this image but I feel like I could have done a better job incorporating the glass and transparency theme.
