Charcoal and Ink drawing

The main subject of my art project is my bird Penny and the setting around her is her cage. I made this drawing with only charcoal and I used a ruler for the bars around her and I use my template photo of her. I chose to create this specific artwork because I feel like I don't show my appreciation for my bird enough and I really liked this photo I took of her.

I don't think I really showed any technique in my drawing besides making lines in the pattern of her feathers and blending them into the drawing so they stand out. Surprisingly I didn't have to change anything in my drawing had an easy time going square by square even if it did take me quite longer then I was hoping for to finish it.

There is a meaning behind this drawing I wanted to show my appreciation for my bird because I feel like I don't talk about her as much as I talk about my other animals. My project relates to my life because this is my own picture that I have taken of my bird. I think my project could be stronger with the shading of the bars especially with the ones in the background that look more like a shadow, I think I could've done better with those ones. But other than that I am really proud of how it came out and I really enjoyed doing this project.
