Sustained Investigation #12

For my sustained investigation #8 through #12 I have been working on gorillas, and for my final product I painted a mother gorilla carrying her baby. I chose to paint a gorilla because of there colors, sense my sustained investigation is based around showing colors through animals I thought gorillas would be perfect. Because of instead of just using shades of black I can use shades of blue and purple for the shadowing and details.

I planned on using watercolor for the whole thing but realized the paper was to thin to carry all the water, so instead I only used watercolor for the base color and used prisma colored pencils to go over the watercolor and get all the shading and details for the rest of it I also used a white posca pen for the highlights.

For my process on my sustained investigation #8 I showed my sketches of gorilla heads and hands that I was practicing and I also experimented with colored pencils. I never use colored pencils for my artwork because I don't really know how to layer with them to get all the details I wanted like I do with watercolor. But I actually really enjoyed using the pencils and think I did a good job layering with them and shading with them.
