Sustained Investigation #15

For my sustained investigation #13-#15 I have been working on a mother giraffe with her baby. For #15 I finished the sketch of the mother giraffe and will start with colors soon. I chose to draw a mother giraffe and her baby because a work friend of mine is having a baby soon and planned on making her nursery based on giraffes. I also chose giraffes because I can use shades of oranges and yellow for the color with hints of reds.

So far I used a reference image that I printed out and did the grids to create a larger-scale version of the image. And then started sketching out the mother giraffe and made sure all the proportions matched the image so it would look nice with the baby giraffe.

I didn't really experiment with anything differently for this sketching process, I did the same thing I always do. At first, I was gonna do like a collage, I printed out a picture of a lion and a tiger cut them in half equally, and aligned the two pictures to make it look like the tiger and lion had the same face... but decided against it and did a mother giraffe with her baby. My next steps are to complete the base colors and to start the details.
