Sustained Investigation #11

For my sustained investigation 8-12 I was working on a momma gorilla and a baby gorilla here I finished the scenery and only had the gorillas left to do. I chose to do a gorilla because of there colors. My inquiry question is how can I show colors through animals, and with gorillas I can do shades of black, purple, and blues.

For my piece I used watercolor for the base of the colors then went over with prismacolor pencils for the detail and shading.

First I practice sketching gorilla faces and hands so I could be ready for the final piece, I then sketched out how I wanted the drawing on my large paper. Then I started with the watercolor base on the scenery and worked on the coloring and shading in the details for about 2 weeks. For the next week or so I want to work on the gorillas doing the same process I did for the background.
