My inspiration for this was to try gouache again, I wanted to try painting again and experiment more with larger brushstrokes. I also wanted the main focus of this painting to be eye's, thought straying away from darker feelings. I wanted express the feeling of curiosity, and interest. Expressing this with bright and contrasting colors, it captivates you once you look at it. I wanted to make the viewer interested and intrigued, while also expressing the feeling of being curious or interested in something. Portraying that through vision is the best way that I thought, our vision initially is what sparks our curiosity. I wanted to portray wanting to see more, whether it's something or someone.
Gouache on 9" x 12" watercolor paper.
My process was to first underpaint in a bright yellow, to make the background pop. After that I sketched out the eyes, I then went in with the first layers of the eyeballs as well as the outsides. I then added the second and third layers, I then added any highlights and extra layers if needed. Finally I added the streaky brushstrokes to the background, in different shades of yellow and light green.
