My inspiration for this was to take a more abstract art, using less human figures and more nature. I wanted to experiment with more natural figures, as well as the movement that they hold and how I can portray. I also wanted to use only a pen, just using black and white forces me to use just once color to show shadows and give the piece depth. Using pattern and hatching helped me do this, which is the final thing I further expolored in this piece.
Pen on 6" x 9" watercolor paper.
My process was to first find a refernce of a tree to see how they move and grow, I then sketched out the tree and the surrounding objects. After that I did outlines of the figures, the tree, clouds, and foreground. And finally I went in with a smaller pen and added patterns and hatching to give it more depth.
