Reflecting on this year, I think that I have improved greatly. I have figured out how to use specific materials and what I like and don't like, as well as I have improved my fundamental skills as an artist. Compared to last year, I have expanded on materials and my inspiration. With a clear connection between pieces, though some of my pieces could've been better, and I have spent more time on them. I believe that I have improved aspects of my skills to make me a more consistent and widespread artist. My work illustrates my strengths, as well as my reliability on things that are comfortable and easy to use. I tend to lean towards straight on and single figures, with no bodies or hair. Which is something that I have to stray away from because it makes my work look too plain and not experimental. While I have my weaknesses, I do have strengths. Such as my ability to create and spark ideas with just my imagination, and fully complete that work with little to no references. And finally, my use of color played a big role in most of my pieces.
Something that was the most challenging and still is, is trying to find a style of art that I like. I have tried to do many things and styles of art, and many of them I either can't replicate or take inspiration from, or I just don't like them. So that's something that I am actively experimenting with, though it was a big challenge this year. As you can see in my art, there is no real consistency with the "style", which isn't a bad thing, but there isn't a lot of unity. Which is not pleasing to my eyes, at least. Though the things that I am most proud of are my progress and the fact that I have a portfolio that I somewhat enjoy, I have pieces that I genuinely think are unique and good art from me. While there are parts that need work, I can look back at past years and reflect on how far I've come. With skill, imagination, and just me as an artist in total.
As the summer starts to creep in, I want to continue to build my portfolio. Making art and experimenting into the summer, so I can stay on the upward curve that I have been following this year. I will try new art materials and experiment with new things. While still trying to find a "style" that suits me, overall, I will continue to create on my own. Whenever and wherever I am, with the intention of bettering myself and my abilities. So I can enter next year's AP art classes ready for the workload. I am excited for what's to come, and hope that I can look back next year and see an even greater improvement.
