Creating Lecture & Multimedia Content Workshop
This workshop is designed for beginners, wanting to break down the process of what and how to create simple multimedia presentations. There will be a short presentation followed by hands-on work time to outline/storyboard your presentation ideas with support from STCC instructional designers.
Share Your Desktop | Screencast Video
A Screencast video can be used to embed into an email, online course or just shared. Explainer videos, like this example, allow the sharing of your desktop content. Having the 'talking head' image in the bottom corner is optional.
Document Camera to Share
Storyboards serve as an outline and sequencing for your multimedia creation. This video was created using a document camera.
Like an opaque projector, a document camera is able to magnify and project the images of actual, three-dimensional objects. They are, in essence, high resolution web cams, mounted on arms so as to facilitate their placement over a page.
How many ideas could you think of to use a document camera?
Collaborate | Webinar for Guest Speakers
Webinar tools, such as Zoom, are great for interviewing guest speakers, holding open office hours or meeting one-to-one with students [or other faculty]. Zoom is a free cloud based tool. Watch Kyle and I do a practice webinar to model how you could use Zoom.
You need a camera and a microphone. Guest can join via mobile device, phone in and/or computer.
Inspiring Students of the Future
Choice. Collaboration. Communication. Critical thinking. Creativity...Should be present in all classrooms.
Motivate your students. Allow them to engage.
Most of all remember the 6th C, Caring!

10 Technology Tools To Promote Active Learning & Engagement
Consider using technology when you want to:
engage students in your content prior to coming to class
have students collaborate with content or ideas or processes
get students to reflect on the content and/or their learning
have student create content based upon their learning with the content
Document Camera, Ring Lights & Stands
Professor Lisa Rapp had a ring light $12 over which she 'taped' a paper plate with a hole for the phone camera lens to record thru. Here's a ring light with a stand for $30. If you created a lot of these, it's a good set up. Notice she has the phone camera on a horizontal/landscape format. If you want a selfie light and holder , search for Selfie Ring Light Cellphone Holder.

Recording on Mobile Devices
There is a small price but for the Apple software, it's worth it. Look for "voice recorder apps" if you want to search on your own for free apps.
Just Press Record (Apple / iOS) $4.99
Smart Recorder (Android): Free / $1.49
Recording on Computers
Voice Feature (Google Docs): Type with your voice!

From Innovative Educators’ Resources
EdPuzzle https://edpuzzle.com/ | customize videos with annotations and questions
Not sure if these EdPuzzles are accessible. If not, H5P interactive videos would work better
Padlet a collaboration tool that works like a bulletin board to share ideas in written and multimedia formats
Pindex Create online boards of information: allows for quizzing [like Pinterest]. Can be used for a webquest in conjunction with other content you have in your course. Sequence your own instructional videos in a meaningful manner.
Mindomo. Mindmapping, concept mapping. https://www.mindomo.com/
Use the LMS whenever possible: try the following to engage students prior to them coming to class. These tools are just for engaging students in the content.
LMS Quizzes
LMS Reflections
LMS Journals
LMS Discussion Boards
Google Docs: encourage reflection - use a shared collaborated doc to create and share notes. Be sure you’re logged into the Google account for your institution
Poll Everywhere ask multiple-choice or open-ended questions; real time display of responses. Encourage students to ask questions
Use Poll Everywhere to do quick assessments
Socrative Solicit feedback during class students do need a device, then everyone can be involved
Plickers collect real time formative data by students with response cards. Instructor scans class of cards. Need to have the cards printed and ready ahead of time.
Promote ongoing engagement: reflect, dialogue VoiceThread share content with narration; allows others to comment in audio video or written format.
Works well for personalized learning experiences. I.e.
Popplet capture and diagram information from Internet; virtual bulletin board
