Our History

The village Bori is well known for peace and harmony as people of different state, religion, caste extends a kind cooperation to all. The soil of Borim has given so many well known personalities to the state as well as to the nation. Some of Our ancestors have uplifted their families from generation to generation with their traditional occupation like agriculture, bettlenut farm, fishing etc. even during Portuguese regime.

Now a day to preserve these occupations has become difficult without any financial aids. Some youths were deprived of getting minimum education due to financial difficulties that they were facing at that time in spite of having talents.

Also now almost 80% of residents of Borim are literate. The youths of Borim are now interested in either going for higher education or for some small scale business. But for this finance becomes the problem.

Therefore in this connection meeting of like minded people of Borim village was called by Mr. Utkarsh S P Borkar on 25th Jun 1998 discuss the proposal of starting credit co-op Societies in the Bori. The said meeting was attended by eleven members and brief discussion of the proposal was done and finally it was decided to start a credit Coop society in the name of The Bori Urban Co-op Credit society Ltd to help for such needy people and also for businessman.

The present members agreed to study rules and Bye Laws of other society in order to frame the rules for this society. The meeting was concluded by fixing the date for the next meeting i.e. on 5th July 1998.The meeting was presided by Mr Jayant Miringker

On 5th July the detail discussion on object of the society authorized share capital of the society etc and committee of three members consisting of Utkarsh Borkar, Jayant Miringker, Pandurang Naik was appointed to draft bye laws of the society. The said meeting was concluded by fixing date of next meting on 19th July 1998.

The bye laws of the society thus framed were presented by the committee in the meeting held on 19th July and in the same meeting it was decided unanimously to open account with the Goa State Co-op Bank Ltd Ponda to be operated by Anand Shinde, Haren A S Borkar, Gurudas Karekar. All the fees and capital amount to be deposited in this account

It was decided to have a meeting to review the status after every fifteen days. In 26th July 1998 meeting it was decided to apply for the registrations of the society as the required number of members and share capital was raised by the society.

As required by the act, that application should be made by the chief promoter Mr Utkarsh S P Borkar was elected than application for the registration was made with following document

1) List of promoter members with their age, address and profession and share contribution

2) Four copies of bye laws

3) Copy of resolution authorizing chief promoter to do all act for registration of the society.

As registration certificate was received by the society, on 31st Jan 1999 society was inaugurated in the hands of the chairman of The Madgaum Urban Coop Bank Ltd Margao Mr. Ramakant Angle with the special invitee Gajanan T Naik, Sarpanch of the village Panchayat Bori Mr.Chandru Gaude, President of Navdurga Sausthan Mr. Venketesh Prabhu Sawkar.

The inauguration function was presided by Dr.Gopinanth Sawkar

The first General body Meeting of the Society was held on 7th 1999 which was presided by Anant alias Gurudas Karekar in which following eleven members committee was constituted as a first Board of Directors

The societies have made steady progress every year and this year society have completed ten years. The tenth anniversary of the society was celebrated with one week programme

Society is very punctual in respect of its Statuary Compliance.

1) Annual General Body Meting

Till today Nine General Body Meting is held in prescribed time

2) Board Meeting

Every month society is having its monthly board meeting 3rd Sunday of every month and till today 143 meeting have been conducted.

3) Election of the society

The election of the society have been held as per the election rules of the society and existing board have been elected unopposed since last three terms.

4) Audit

The audit of the society has been done up to the year 2007-2008 as per the act

Society celebrating its Anniversary day on 31st Jan 2009 by having Satyanarayan Pooja and followed Bhajan by local artist.

The progress of the society is due to its sincere efforts of Board of Director, Staff, Pigmy agent, and trust shown by the members and the depositors.
