December 2018

Sanitary napkin incinerators are installed at Vivekananda Higher secondary & college section as well as Navdeep High School, Tarvale to help empower the girls from Borim. All educational institutions have biomedical waste management in Borim.

November 2018

The Hon. Governor of Goa Dr. Mridula Sinha invited the students participating in Bori Kalangan to the Raj Bhavan and felicitated them on November 3, 2018. Songs on Swacch Bharat written by Dr. Mridula Governor were played, which was liked by the students. The Governor gave lot of information on personal hygiene and community cleanliness to the students and motivated them to be the change agents to create a new India.

June 2018

The biomedical waste station with a sanitary napkin incinerator is installed in Swami Vivekananda High School, Shirshirem.

December 2017-November 2018

Bori Kalangan, a bus stop chalk art competition, was undertaken at Top Cola Bus Stop, Bori for the year 2017-18. Swacch Bori, Nital Goen was the topic for the yearlong competition where 38 students participated. The program was guided by renowned artist Shridhar Kamat Bambolkar. This was to support the Swacch Bharat initiative of PM Narendra Modi.

October 2017

The Borim Village panchayat has taken lead to manage waste in the village. They intend to manage the dry, wet and biomedical waste in the village. BDT will offere technical help and support to make the program successful.

August 2016

The Bori Development Trust team with support from local MLA & Industries Minister, all panchayat members, Samrat Club of Bori, Raj Group Cricket Club, Tarun Mandal, Universal Club, SFX Club, Prathibha Friend Circle, Navdurga Arogya Seva Kendra, Sakhalya Ganeshotsava Mandal, Navadurga Temple, SFX Church, Saibaba Temple, Gopla Krishna Temple, Bori Urban Cooperative Credit Society and residents of Bori made a Swacch Bori Abhiyan 2016 to bring awareness of waste management in the village.

January 2015

BDT has targeted to cover all 9 wards for collection of dry waste.

The new shed to collect dry waste of the entire village is completed at Talsai Bori at a cost of around Rs.1 Lakh. Congratulations to Sanjay Bhat Borkar and Salvador to make it happen. We will now reach out to the entire village for collection and storage and disposal of all dry waste. The dry waste will be plastic (bottles, caps, wrapers, bags etc.). paper, cloth, old footware, metal, glass & electronic waste as fused tubelights, CFL, LED, chokes etc.

We want financial support and cooperation from to make Bori the first village garbage free village in Goa with the efforts of the residents led by Bori Development Trust and Village Panchayat.

Apr 2013

The Goa Non-biodegradable garbage control act 1996 and rules 1997 clearly assign the responsibility to manage the Non-biodegradable garbage on local authority (village panchayat). The panchayat is not taking the responsibilities and BDT will pressurize the panchayat in gramsabha. BDT has been resent a letter to Panchayat minister, local mla, directorate of panchayat and all panches to address the management of Non-biodegradable garbage and awaiting response.

A waste paper bin to be installed at the bustop near the Church to control littering. Based on the results we can extend to all bustops.

The collection of the plastic and other waste in Bori is continuing for all Deulwada residents for 9 months. Awareness flyers will be distributed to cultivate the habit of creating a litter free Bori village. BDT will explore with BARC to develop a waste treatment plant at Bori. The BDT team will visit CCP Panaji and other waste management programs to study the model for Bori. The non recyclable waste will be attempted to be bailed and disposed off with a government appointed contractor.

Develop an awareness flyer for avoiding use of plaster of paris and synthetic colors in making eco friendly idols with mud or paper with natural colors. Assist in getting government grants to support the initiative. Also from next year control on dumping flowers in the water bodies of the region will be implemented.

Tree plantation to be undertaken in Bori as part of beatification and green Bori program. Forest Department will plant the trees after permission from Panchayat. The first pilot project will be undertaken in Deulwada ward

Dec 1, 2013

The collection of the plastic and other waste in Bori is continuing for all Deulwada residents for 5 months. Awareness flyers will be distributed to cultivate the habit of creating a litter free Bori village. BDT will explore with BARC to develop a waste treatment plant at Bori. “Clean Bori, Green Bori” drive on Oct 2, 2012 was held before the gramsabha. BDT plans to inform all bout the past 6 months progress of collecting more than 800 kg of plastic in our newly refurbished storage enclosure and also request the residents to donate money to cover costs of the collection vehicles & people cost.

July 1, 2012

The meeting with Deputy Sarpanch Parimal Samant, Village Panchayat Bori, BDT members and residents of Deulwada was conducted on Sunday July 1, 2012. More than 80 residents of Deulwada attended and pledged to make their area free of plastic, metal, hazardous used cfl lights or fluorescent tubes garbage. Every Sunday from 9 am - 12pm a collection is planned. A review meeting will be done in 3 weeks. The team plans to continue Clean Bori, Green Bori drives on Oct 2 and January 26 each year to keep the drive on track. The Village panchayat shall be coaxed to take lead for the waste management drive. Awareness flyers will be distributed cultivate the habit of creating a litter free Bori village

April 9, 2011:

K.D. Sadhale suggested to inform all about the supreme court verdict of each citizen's responsibility, Goa non biodegradable act, Directorate of panchayat resolution on responsibility of waste management. Take assistance from Gulab Borkar, faculty of GVM Higher Secondary. Introduce garbage cans with support from Zuari Agro Chemicals. Arrange a press release for 8 months of work with JCI.

March 12, 2011:

Sanjay Bhat Borkar & Sudesh Borkar have the waste plastic collection program extended to several wards of Bori. First meeting was at Parpatiwada led by the panch Nutan Naik it was followed by Deulwada, Tishem , Betki led by the Father of SFX church. We thank all the Borikars to adopt the Clean Bori, Green Bori program.

Under "Chaka Chak Goa" campaign undertaken by Nirmal Vishwa Abhiyan, Bori Panchayat, JCI - Bori & Bori Development Trust made the"Clean Bori, Green Bori" drive a success.

There was overwhelming response from more than 600 volunteers which included students from Swami Vivekanand High School (Bori), Pragati Vidyalaya (Bori), Kamakshi Higher Secondary, Curti, Ponda and Khandola College of Arts and Sciences (Marcel) along with young and old Borikars. The folks were out on roadsides collecting plastic, paper and other dry waste. This has brought awareness among local residents regarding need to properly dispose the waste and improve sanitation and protect the environment.

The drive at Bori was started from two ends of the village Baithkhol (Top Cola) and Bori Bridge flagged by the Sarpanch and ex-Sarpanch of Bori. The MLA of Bori-Shiroda, Mahadev Naik and Ms. Shaila Borkar, member of Zilla Parishad worked with the volunteers.

Mr. K.D.Sadhale and his team from Nirmal Vishwa Abhiyan inspected the area and found Bori the best cleaned village from all the participating villages. The Kokum and snacks was a great boost to the toiling volunteers.

We thank the support partner Zuari Industries Ltd. (Mr. George Ninan) for providing the banners and safety stickers. All the volunteers got incentive gift to support the drive. The drive lasted for 3 hrs and collected 110 bags (around 1.5 tonnes) of dry waste.

Planning Meeting

On 23rd January from 10 am -12 pm a planning cum demonstartion meeting of all Borikars was held at Panchayat Hall in Bori. Mr. K.D. Sadhale gave information on collection and management of dry waste also helped plan the Jan 26 Clean Bori, Green Bori drive. Mr.Mohan Tendulkar from Malkarne gave valuable information on managing farm and wet household waste. A design for the vermi compost pit was discussed. The Borikars will do initial 5-10 demonstration pits to kick start the drive. The Sarpanch Naik welcomed all and committed complete support to the ensure the program is successful. Zuari Manager George Ninan, a Bori resident has setup a vermi compost in a barrel as a demonstration in Bori. He pledged support to a program of waste free Bori with Zuari Agro Chemicals support. Sudesh Borkar and Sameer Shinde conducted the program.The enthusiasm of all institutions educational, Cultural and panchayat was overwhelming

Clean Bori Green Bori

Kudos to Bori Devlopment Trust's Sanjay Bhat Borkar and JCI - Bori's Sudesh Borkar to take the lead and work with all 12 schools in Bori to develop the "Clean Bori Green Bori" campaign.

This initiative will bring awareness to the students (next generation) of Bori, their parents and also involve the school to lead the cause.

The program is working great with all 9 primary & secondary schools, 2 high schools & 1 Higher Secondary participating with enthusiam. Sanjay & Sudesh went and training all schools students to clean the plastic bags and ensure dry plastic waste was deposited in the school. The fequency of 2 weeks for collection is closely monitored.

The program will be extended to the shopkeepers so we can ensure all plastic is collected and recycled. The religious institutions will help influence their devotees to assist our village to be free of the plastic menace.
