secured all the prizes.
iii) Medico- Cirurgica from Nova Goa in 1933 .Stood first during the course and
secured prizes in Microbiology & Surgery.
iv) D.T.M.H. (Lisbon) in 1938 with distinction
v) Higher Exam In Pathology (Lisbon) -1939 with distinction
vi) MBBS ,Lake Medical College (Calcutta Uni) -1949
vii) Higher Courses in Pathology In the Indian Armed Forces- 1944- stood first
4.HIGHLIGHTS OF PROFESSIONAL CAREER :-
i) Asst professor of Protozoology & Parasitology in the Institute Of Tropical
Medicine Lisbon - 1940
ii) General Practice in Mumbai 1941-42
iii) Took commission the Army Medical Corps of Indian Army Medical Service-1943.First person to enrol in Indian Army from Borim !
Retired from Defence Service in June 1966.
iv) Pathologist In Group Head Quarters (India) at Secunderabad.Member of
the penicillin research team .
v) Registrar in the Central pathology Laboratory,Portsmouth,England – 1953-54
vi) Teacher in Pathology in the Armed Forces Medical College,Pune and other Army laboratories for about 22 years.
vii) Member Of Mycology committee of ICMR -1960-63
viii) First Professor & H.O.D. Deptt. Of Forensic Medicine & Jurisprudence in The Graduate Wing of AFMC,Pune.

5. CONTRIBUTION TO SCIENCE & RESEARCH :-
i) In 1947, invented an apparatus for continuous slow injection of Penicillin-
Secunderabad apparatus which was extensively used for the war casualties from Burma. His paper was published in Lancet,I,477,1947
ii) He was dedicated to the treatment of war wounded inflicted with late infected
compound fractures from battle fields with penicillin therapy which at that
time proved to be a magic drug.His clinical paper was published in The
British Journal Of Surgery ,34,348,1947
iii) He was interested in Mycology and did extensive research on histoplasmosis
by isolating it from soil and man and growing it on culture.
iv) His interest in antibiotics continued and in 1962 carried out extensive clinical
trials on Octacillin .This was published in the Armed Forces Medical Journal
v) He had keen interest in haematology and did lot of work on
haemochromatosis and megaloblastic anemias which were published in
various journals.
vi) He was member of the team which worked on “ Artificial Kidney” ,the first
version of Renal Dialysis Unit. This involved managing electrolytes of the
patient on artificial Kidney to an optimal level.He was commended by the
Director General Armed Forces Medical Services for his dedication to duty.
- SPECIAL INTERESTS :-
i) Teaching :- He was a born teacher.He could teach a child from Kinder Garten to
a PhD student with same softness,zeal and enthusiasm.He was acclaimed as the
best teacher in AFMC on several occasions.he was quite popular with his
students and commanded a lot of respect.
ii) Reading :- he was a voracious reader and had God gifted photographic memory.
iii) Other interests were playing chess, card games like Bridge, billiards.
Playing musical instruments like flute,harmonium,tabla etc.
He liked to learn new languages.He was fluent in English,Portuguese,Spanish,
French,Hindi,Marathi and Konkani.
iv) Mathematics & statistics.It was his hobby & passtime to solve difficult
mathematical problems & Times Of India Crossword puzzles .
He left for his heavenly abode on 10 December 1994 at Mumbai.
We salute Major Mablu Dotu Sinai Borcar alias Chandrakant Borcar alias Bhau for his pioneering work in the field of antibiotics and mycology and being a trend setter in joining the Indian Armed Forces to serve the Nation.
