APPEAL

In the rich heritage of Goa’s cultural life the people from Borim have a special importance. Borim village at the foothills of Siddhanath Parvat and bank of river Zuvari is blessed with nature and has attained greatness because of the people who have were born here and are presently living and have migrated from Borim to all the parts of the globe.

Historically the Vijaynagar Kings have always respected the wisdom of the Borikars. Borikars have excelled in areas of Arts & Culture; Spirituality & Religion; Science, Medicine & Technology; Law, Defense & Social service.

Padmashri Bakibab Borkar, a renowned poet; Laxmidas Borkar, a freedom fighter and celebrated journalist; Babi Borkar, Harmonium wizard & an associate of Master Dinnanath Mangeshkar, Shankar Borkar, ex-Drug Controller of India; Pt. Tulsidas Borkar - Sangeet Natak Awardee for his mastery of Harmonium; Painter Vishnu Borkar; Famous musicians Ravindra Chari and Yogiraj Borkar; Dr. Atmaram Borkar a renowned medical practitioner and social worker; Madhav Borkar – twice recipient of Sahitya Academy Award.

Borim is known for legends with mastery in Sanskrit and Vedas, Veda Vidya Parangat Vithalshastri Borkar, Veda Murti Haribhau Borkar, Veda Murti Balkrishna Shastri Devari, Veda Chudamani Pandit Yogesh Manohar Borkar, Saint Jaganathbua Borikar, a pioneer of the Bhajani Saptaha,

Thousands of Borikars have migrated all over the world and have continued to excel in their new land they embraced. Ratnagiri and vicinity is home to thousand five hundred Borikars. Similarly areas of North Karnataka attracted a few Borikars. Arts & culture leaders and graduates of engineering, medicine, science, pharmacy are all over India, USA, UK, Australia, Middle East and various other countries.

The residents of Borim, Goa have embarked on a community idea, lead by our progressive elder generation, to celebrate the success of all the people who have made us proud. We intend to invite all leaders in their profession who qualify to be BORIKARS by being born in Borim or are Sons & Daughters with family origin in Borim or have migrated from or are living in Borim. The convention shall be open to all BORIKARS, without any bias of gender, religion, caste or creed.

The convention will assist the people associated to Borim form a pluralistic community, foster a platform for all World Borikars to engage and work together. Also the congregation energy can be positively channeled towards collaboration to develop Borim village.

The WORLD BORIKAR CONVENTION (JAGATIK BORIKAR SAMMELAN) is arranged at Navadurga Temple Campus, Borim, Ponda, Goa during December 25-27 (Fri – Sun), 2009.

The three day convention will be a gala of engagement and fellowship of world delegates with roots in Borim. The Borim village hosts shall include all religious, social and educational institutions.

The program will include Felicitation and Celebration of Stalwarts, wards of BORIKARS with academic, cultural & sports excellence and Talent display of folk dances, Drama, Music, Yoga and Spirituality by fellow Borikars. Various symposium and seminars on Literature, Poetry & Journalism will showcase the work of the frontrunners.

The convention will be a opportunity to highlight the plan for development of Borim. A exhibition on Borim village achievements and development will be arranged and shall display & sell items marketed by Borikars.

We need detailed information [complete name, address, telephone (preferably mobile), email id] of all Borikars who have attained public recognition and excellence in Arts & Culture, Spirituality & Religion, Science, Medicine & Technology, Defense & Social service.

On behalf of organizing team, I appeal to all my BORIKAR brothers and sisters to participate in the unique convention. The individual membership for participation in the WORLD BORIKAR CONVENTION is minimum Rs. 500 for India residents and $ 50 for residents outside India.
