Two states described similarly to AD.
(State 1: Late prints show weak facial lines and broadened networks.
State 2: Restoration of engraving, thinned check letters, especially the upper D, and a new burr in the right hand margin.)

Damaged copy. This copy is almost certainly a state 1 with check letters that are clearly heavier than Winston's state 2 (see below). The other alternative is that it is (an unrecorded) state 3 with the check letters re-cut. More examples needed.

This is a significant item as it is in the second state of this position, and dated 11 May 1866. This means that the first repair to plate 85 occurred before this date. Not unusually, the Perkins Bacon engraving book is silent on this point.
