An excellent example of a non-coincident Re-entry. These are scarce as most re-entries are coincident or at least nearly so. What is very apparent with this impression is that the whole of engraving has been doubled, making the Queens neck and shoulders look positively sun tanned! There is a lot of ink there.
This is proof that it was not normal practice to remove the previous impression before it was re-entered as has been suggested elsewhere. The strength of the previous impression showing through is at least partial evidence that the plate was repaired whilst still case-hardened. If it were softened first I would argue that the previous impression would not be anywhere as near as prominent as it is here.
