69, FLEET STREET ;
Nov. 3, 1854.
DEAR SIR,
We are greatly obliged by your kind attention and hints to Mr. Humphries (sic) in the preparation of the new Postage Penny Stamp die, and which we understand from him, that you approve in its present state. We have forwarded herewith a letter to Mr. Keogh, enclosing impressions which we shall feel obliged if you will seal and forward to the Commissioners as early as convenient after having examined the contents.
We are, &c., &c.,
[Signed] PERKINS, BACON & Co.
ORMOND HILL, ESQ.

Comment: This is an interesting letter in that it tells us something of the relationship that existed between PB and Ormond Hill. Seems that the fairly brutal response of the Commissioners of the IR on the 3rd October had put the cat among the pigeons. It looks as if Ormond Hill stepped in as a cushion between the various parties, and has possibly already received an agreement in principle before thesecond try at the new die was sent to the Commissioners.
