State 1, East side weak at top; Value normal; Lower half of east side re-cut.
State 2, East network slightly thinned; Value compressed; Both letters thinned; E side NE & N NW square thicker; Top of B broken & bar of H missing.
That's a pretty good summary. Both 'BH' and 'BH a' appear to conform to the description of state 2, with 'BH a' looking like a fresh post repair impression. The East network is very tight, and the cross bar of the H is still hanging on by a thread. 'BH' is a later impression of state 2, after a little wear.
