Knight Swallow

Knight was one of five children of George and Tabitha Swallow, of 1, Broad Cutt Rd., Horbury. He was born about 1889 in Woolley, and his father was a coal hewer.

Knight was a Private in the 1st Battalion of the Coldstream Guards (Service number 10940) and died on 22nd December 1914, aged 25. He has no known grave – his memorial reference is on Panels 2 and 3 of the Le Touret Memorial. The memorial covers the period from the arrival of the II Corps in Flanders in 1914 to the eve of the Battle of Loos - over 13,000 names are listed on the memorial of men who fell in this area before 25 September 1915 and who have no known grave.
