Charles Dyson

Charles was probably the son of William and Maria Dyson, who (in 1901) lived in Lydgate Villas, off High Street, in the parish of St Peter’s Horbury. He was born in 1882 in West Bromwich. By the time of his death on 24th November 1916 near Salonika, he was a Lance Corporal in the 1st battalion of the King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry), (Service number 18807). Charles’ name is recorded on The Doiran Memorial in Greece. The area was the scene of fierce fighting, although many died of sickness (particularly malaria). The memorial commemorates more than 2,000 Commonwealth servicemen who died in Macedonia and whose graves are not known.
