George Glover

George Glover was the grandson of George Schofield, although he was only 3 years younger than his uncle Harry Schofield. Thomas Henry Glover married Martha Schofield, George Schofield’s daughter, at St Peter’s in October 1890. Together they had 3 children, George, Dora and Thomas junior, but Thomas senior died in 1893 (his burial was delayed because of a coroner’s inquest). Martha remarried in 1896 and had 5 further children; by 1911 she lived in Netherton. However George seems to have stayed with his grandparents, as did his younger brother Thomas but not sister Dora.

At some stage grandson George transferred from the Yorks and Lancs regiment (with whom he was based at Tanshelf, Pontefract in 1911) to the Australian infantry, becoming a sergeant. He died of his wounds on May 14th 1917 at a casualty clearing station near Grevillers, a village in the Department of the Pas de Calais, 3 kilometres west of Bapaume. He is buried in the cemetery that was attached to the casualty clearing station.
