Frank Rhodes

Frank was born in Horbury in 1899, the son of John W. and Ellen Rhodes, of 41, George St., Horbury, Wakefield, Yorks. John was a sawyer at the railway wagon works in 1901.

Frank was a server at St Mary’s before he enlisted as a Private in the 6th Battalion of the Leicestershire Regiment (Service number 47204). He died on 27th May 1918 – one of 15000 casualties of an overwhelming German attack which, despite fierce opposition, pushed the Allies back across the Aisne to the Marne. He has no known grave – his memorial reference is on the Soissons Memorial.
