Feature #1: Super Saiyan 5 and Dragon Ball AF: Do they exist?

Written by: SilverPlaqueVII

Without a dramatic harsh in a late June weekend, a bunch of G20 Protests trashed my own city with violent riots. This is not getting serious anyway. In today's feature, Does Dragon Ball AF (Doragon Boru AF), the famous Super Saiyan 5 (Supa Saiya-jin Go) (SSJ5) image, or Xicor (Son Goku's son) exist. Maybe a little... but purely to me: No.. This feature explains how the dôjinshi (lit. Fan-made comic) works out just fine.

Now lets read!

How did it started?

Started back in 1997 as a April Fool's joke, to be concerned a fourth anime installment of the Dragon Ball franchise, The famous Super Saiyan 5 images leaked all over the internet in the late 1990s, although nobody was unable to track down the original source. To this day, the images leaked everywhere in search engines on the internet. But can the dojinshi be found over this? Evidence say should they even exist, occupy the same legal status as fan fiction and fan art. This is NOT proven by science people!! This is Dragon Ball were talking about.

Ahem... Dragon Ball GT ended (and signed-off the air) on November 19, 1997 after spanning 64 episodes. Since then, it gained popularity, been the basis for various fictional works by fans, and has even resulted in a dōjinshi series produced by the "so-called fake manga publishing company" called Toyble. Rather dying to see this, the revival of merchandising in Japan is really a worth of cost like the Kanzenbans for example. In a first served basis, realms of officially-licensed properties which are produced by or with the approval of Akira Toriyama, Bird Studio, Shueisha Inc., and Toei Animation Co. Ltd., this series and I literally mean 100% DOESN'T EXIST. Toriyama publicly stated that he has no intentions of continuing the series (which he finished in 1995) but he as no interventions doing so, though he has drawn a parody series, Neko Majin Z, in which several Dragon Ball characters appear, a one-shot rumor crossover between Dragon Ball and One Piece, in collaboration with One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, entitled Cross Epoch, the JSAT "Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return", and of course, the Director's Cut of Dragon Ball Z airing in Japan, Dragon Ball Kai (Dragon Ball Z Kai in North America).

Next question...

The image: Super Saiyan 5 (Supa Saiya-jin Go)

Strangely, Super Saiyan 5 isn't real in the franchise, but a speculation is a possibility. An unknown artist drawn this image likely in the 1990s as seen on the right side. This may not be the true form of the Legendary Super Saiyan although it is not real.  However, FUNimation/Viz Media wants fans to know from the official source that Dragon Ball GT is the last series and neither AF nor V exist. As far as we know, and Toei/Shueisha has confirmed this matter, there are no future plans for any continuance of the Dragon Ball series beyond GT (even though Dragon Ball Kai is the refreshed DBZ TV Series). This lead to the question at panels in anime conventions and an effort on FUNimation's Dragon Ball Z site in a FAQ Section.Episode Guides/Story arcs/Characters - total waste...An oddball occurred when the episodes guides and story arcs are very too fictitious in nature in Dragon Ball AF. Characters such as Xicor were always hinted at alt.fan.dragonball (a popular Dragon Ball discussion newsgroup), until approximately 2003 when the newsgroup declined activity. A bunch of fansites/forums took it in when browsing the internet in 2004 with that taking popularity.

As a notorious fansite, MyFavoriteGames.com wrote this summary, here are the essentially details that break down the entire series:

DBAF takes place around 120 years after the Frieza Saga. At this time Goku is off going from planet to planet training and he comes across one planet which looks absolutely beautiful, he goes onto this planet for training and finds that all the people there look perfect, and also the gravity is 1000 times that of earths so he figures its ideal for training for a little while. He also meets this stunningly beautiful woman there who try's to seduce Goku however Goku resists because of his heart belonging to Chi-chi, she senses this but makes love to him in his dreams. Shortly after Goku leaves the planet and as he leaves, the planet turns into silver and it disappears totally as well as everyone who inhabited it! Since the woman was a god and created a perfect illusion for Goku she also sensed how powerful he was, she wanted to have his baby and create the ultimate being. Anyway around 120 years later she gives birth to a child named Xicer who is naturally born as a super Saiyan 5 and is 1 year old, since he is half god and half Saiyan he is the ultimate being however he is pretty much useless as he needs to be trained by someone great, his father obviously, Goku, so he goes off in search of his real father to be trained by him and become the greatest warrior in the universe from which his mother wants him to be.

More information about Dragonball AF.

300 years ago goku ,gohan died but where considered ultimate ancestors because of there power levels, goten was still live and well cause him and trunks where equal strength and granted eternal life from dende. They had all seven dragonballs plus the alfa ball. for a while and soon decided to wish back Goku, Gohan Vegeta Andriod 16 And Shella(trunks daughter) they do that but then a dude called boronks comes(ally like vegeta) and is angry he didn't get his wish to be the strongest ever!  So then he fights goku and goku gets pounded and was on the verge of dieing again but gotten level 5 gets angry(as he does) and fuses with goten level 5 and creates Gotenks(the dude with red hair) level 5 and takes on boronks but also gets a pounding but eventully get the fusion earrings from dende and fuses also with gohan level 5 (the new created airings allows up to 3 fuses!) and creates hantenks-the ultimate version and gives boronks a pounding, then they take the airings off and calm down the talk to boronks and then eventually decide to become allies (boronks is still pretty dodgey!, like vegeta).

Believe me, this is not happening. At some point around, while many "faked" images (generally produced as humorous commentary on the rumors, or outside of AF but incorporated into it accidentally) do exist, there are no raw manga scans or unaltered screenshots available, anywhere. Particularly good artwork may be mistakenly viewed as "promotional art," but no media from within the manga/anime exists. Therefore, the burden of proof is on those who claim they own the series to put forth something they cannot possibly have (calls for such individuals to show whatever material they have are usually met by excuses or ad-hominem attacks). Like Super Saiyan 4 Son Gohan for example, it was drawn by "Studio Tomita", which was a Japanese fan art group (or an individual responsible), has nothing to do with the series or the creator. Sadly, the site link was took down eventually, but a statement says below even though it was written in Japanese:

If you accessed this homepage in order to obtain an image of "DRAGON BALL", you will be discouraged. I do not put an image of "DRAGON BALL" in this homepage currently. And I reply to a request of somebody and do not intend to send an image. I'm sorry.

In obstinacy, however, that some Japanese fans have taken to commenting on the AF phenomenon outside of Japan, and this may be regarded as commentary on the "series" itself by those who do not speak Japanese. Indeed, the language barrier has often been a source of obfuscation, both for those who would believe the rumors, and those whose goal is to spread them further.

As for the manga cover, this is not really right. Maybe... Toyble took this and drawn the cover likely in 1999 perhaps. In return, Daizenshuu EX took an article about this in 2004, analyzing what happened with a massive prank "announcing" the new series that they have a so-called "commercial" and "print ad," This is not the case people, stupidity is not right.

And who is Xicor? This was supposed to be Goku's son, but that name is a spoof-off characters from the Star Wars franchise. Little to know, The character's name was inspired by a Portuguese name, Xico. Still it is questionable issue on the pronunciations. And as for the character, Xicor is best known as being the third son of Goku, but no way, Jose. The characters (as well as the episode guides) chose to go with naming conventions and listings that make more sense for a FUNimation English release, rather than the Japanese-styled ones. For example, Cooler and Broly Defeated. (It may give me a huge headache, though Coola and Broli were featured in this title), "Jeice" instead of "Jhees". They don't follow the Japanese naming conventions as such the case.

Revealed: Toyble

In 2006, there was a total web-comic fan named Toyble who was known famously naming the series, taking the elements over the years, and of course, the "Xicor" character. That weaves the series altogether after Dragon Ball GT and makes the 20-page manga/dojinshi on his blog since. As of now, it is still gain popularity since I started this site months later. There is a translation available by my forum dawg, Desire Campbell and can be linked here.

Although MyFavoriteGames.com made it first, they did this themselves and of course, all old and new fansites out there working out strong.

Conclusion

Firstly is foremost, the signature call letters of the series, "AF", are a fairly solid give-away that it was all an April Fools gag or After Future. My seductive reaction to this feature was that there is no such thing a DBAF, SSJ5 (although my good 'ol buddy, Dale wrote "Super Saiyan 10, RAWRRR" at the back of my school yearbook), and the upcoming characters. Both series fully rejected, after being planned long before GT even production opened space for some new scenes, a few unmade/finished movies were reedited to include characters from the planes they never got to air. So Viz, FUNimation, Toei, Shueisha, and Toriyama has nothing to do with this series and can be considered, "unauthorized dojinshi". But still, I can considered this a "piracy bootleg" after this was not worth of cost for the manga/anime series thousands of dollars. They also put fan-made videos on YouTube, but sometimes takes them down months later such as this video made by the user named SSJ4Brolyisthebest for instance. But you know what, I rest my case. Jury over.
