There Comes A Chariot

Out of nothing

God created the breath of life

God spoke of the breath of the heavens

although it was not

and it pulsated

and behold

Israel stood on the Mountain

and heard God breathing softly in the Garden

The priest of Midian had seven daughters

seven nations to carry gently

the babes of Moses in their arms

With seven blessings they blessed Abraham

and raised his toddlers upon their shoulders

to carry the treasures of God back to Zion

Oh Zion!

Why are you weeping still?

Oh Judah, bride of life!

Why do you languish in the pit of Joseph

— the pit of your remorse?

The elders of the hidden people know

and rejoice with prayer

The angels of the animals know

and dance like children

They are quiet but joy is their song

All these walk together

upon the waters of the Most High

to watch the eternal daylight dawn

Yet Zion makes calloused her hands

digging herself deeper into the pit

Oh Zion!

Cease your labour

Stop your digging for a moment

Listen quietly

Be still from this dark labour in the prison mines

Let your imagination be holy like your prayers

and with your holy imagination listen

Do you hear?

Up upon the surface of the worlds

even now

there comes a chariot

There comes the thunder of the heavenly hoof
