Shavuot Banquet
We riot in an arrogant technology
a technology named, "No God Is Our Power"
We oppress the earth
like a farmer with a veal-calf
We sit only a little ashamed at the table
while those who provide for us
make a nasty living
What does the conscience of Bible converts say?
Treat your cat as gently as you would a butterfly
Train your dog like you train your hand
Because you listen to your own thirst
you give water to the plants in your house
Because you would not leave your own eyes in the dark
you open your curtains for your house plants
How sensitive your conscience is!
Like the eye of the snail
it reacts to the slightest touch of sin
Why then do you harden your heart against your enemies
who are in the dark without God?
Will you deny the taste of true water
to those who have never tasted the water of God's spirit?
"What can I do?" you will say
"I am afraid because my enemies are violent!"
Pray with Israel's Faithful Friend in the garden!
Pray to stay awake...
Pray for those who willingly destroy the earth
those who are your enemies in your own home
When the Springtime of God comes
and he returns to cultivate the earth
how will they escape his anger
unless you pray?
Pray for everyone who even speaks against you
And God will make your tongue his tabernacle
in the time when he comes again to visit the earth
In all your memories, remember
all unredeemed time is vanity
All thoughts are vanity
but those thoughts seeking God
All thoughts without prayer are empty and wasted
How will you sustain the empire of your thoughts in God's presence?
All breath is vanity
but breath which has been baptized in Israel's tears
breath that has been cleansed in holy fire
the fire that hides Israel's Messiah in judgment
and in the fire of compassion reveals him again
This fire is kindled in the womb of God's spirit
Do not breathe without God's spirit
Believe in the conversion of the world
Live in the conversion of the world
Soon, by God's counting
it will have been fifty days since the secret fire was kindled
and the banquet will be fully prepared
Remember and wait
until you are called to the witness stand in Jerusalem
on the festival of Shavuot
where the white stones are given
with the names of the Shavuot guests
Prepare yourself not by power, nor by might
but by my spirit
says the Everlasting Lord of Everlasting Jerusalem
