I Will Not Marry That Man
I Will Not Marry That Man
We came and saw human predators,
cannibals and scroungers,
trying to build towers above the clouds,
living in refuge dumps,
raising families in garbage,
turning families into garbage.
And then we knew what God saw
when He came to talk with Noah.
How do you make moral, holy people
out of cannibals?
It is not enough to get them to stop
eating their children.
They must learn to feed nations
through neighbourly love.
God said,
I erased the living human carnage once
with a flood
I will not do it again.
Next time this happens
there must be saviours in the midst
who can capture the evil inclination
and make it a fuel,
to fuel a burning passion for repentance.
Next time,
there must be a Master of Prayer
who knows the glory of my commandment
and the sweetness of obedience,
who accepts Adam’s sentence of death for sin
and sacrifices himself to the Torah,
in order that he might know the God of Israel,
in order that he might pray
for Jerusalem,
in order that her heart might say to him,
I will not marry that man
who comes to me in his own name,
and not in the name of the Lord
of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
"You shall arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yes, the set time, is come.
For Your servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour her dust.
So the nations shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth Your glory.
When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.” Ps. 102:13-16
