Creation
There can be no king without a kingdom
no rule of light to the nations
without eyes that were living in darkness
It is the great modesty of the bride
to have bridesmaids who rejoice
to see the radiance of her face
Their faces shine back into her eyes
because they see her love
and learn love from her and with her
It is the modesty of the bride
that she takes the full measure of her own joy
and learns the full radiance of her own face
only when she sees through the eyes of her bridesmaids
For this reason we know
That when God said
Let there be light
he saw the light with such great humility
that humility was created
as a vessel for light
in the heavens and on the earth
Pride is the enemy of love
Pride loves weapons and to win a war
Love desires to give life
The earth is lost and desperately wandering
The soul of the earth shudders with fear
It vibrates like glass about to break
The earth flees to hide in darkness
on account of the roaring pride
roaring as a dragon
the pride that rules its mind
But the dragon does not rule
in the earth’s deepest heart
For the heart of the heart
of the earth
is ruled still by the humble love
that nurtured it at birth
Yet when it came of age
the dragon seduced earth’s mind
Then earth’s heart was broken
on account of its unfaithfulness
The dragon conquered the earth’s mind
The dragon pride also penetrated its heart
Earth’s love became untrue
breaking its own heart
Then the Lover of the earth
the One who created the heavens
and gave birth to the earth
from the womb of life
whispered a word
into the broken heart of the earth
The One who created the heart of the earth
as a heart of love
whispered in secret to the earth
and said
I forgive you
When you broke your own heart
when your love became untrue
when you were seduced by dragon pride
you broke also my infinite heart
because of your pride
and because you broke your own heart
and because of my love for you
I have suffered everything
and I forgive you
Then the heart of the earth trusted love
And then the earth knew the truth
that pride was a lie
that pride could never make it strong
Trusting its Creator’s love
the heart of earth knew the truth
that pride had no strength at all
that it could not give it life or kill it
Then peace descended upon the earth
Humble love retained its rule
over the heart of the earth
even through its brokenness
The earth stopped fleeing into darkness
It stopped trembling at the core
Its foundation began to settle
The heart of earth knew
that if it must die
to be freed from the infection of pride
it knew it was safe for it to die
to die from its broken heart
For it knew it would be healed
and live again through the love
of the One who made it
With faith the deepest heart of the earth
slew a dragon
and put an end to the rule of pride forever
The heart and mind and soul of the earth
turned all the pride that it had conceived
whether it had imagined it for good or for evil
into thankfulness
The humility of the Creator conceived
and gave birth to light in the heart of the earth
With thankfulness the modest face of the earth
began to shine with light
