Sorrow's Reflection

She weeps with the night

There is no one, no one

at the appointed place of assembly.

Her Comforter is not close.

The goyim have entered her private chamber.

Her children sold her bridal gifts so she would not starve.

Blessed Holy One, see my abject poverty!

A spark from Above ignited my bones with fire.

How?  How could it be?

How could a cloud cover the sun of righteousness?

How could a cloud of pain so blur the eyes of faith?

They almost went blind.

The virgin daughter of Judah is crushed like grapes.

She is squeezed in the chastisement of Your Hand.

My little ones are survivors of a holocaust.

Zion begs, yet there is no pity in the eye.

My soul cries out for her; I am silent without breath...

Where is the one who is our breath of life?

Death has pinned my heart to the ground with grief.

My rebellion has come back upon me.

I am without thought before Your face of Truth.

You, The Name, you have done this, and not my enemies.

Let their derision come back upon them.

Let them be ashamed before Your face of Truth.

The Name, the Holy Blessed One, he alone is righteous.

You have done this to correct my ways.

Adonai swallowed Jacob up in His anger.

Zion was a tent in a whirlwind.

Her beauty was the joy of the heavens.

Now her beauty is scattered in the dust.

Jacob is a grain field in a wildfire.

His princes mourn; their glory is ash.

Zion is moaning as one felled by an unholy plague.

The Sabbath Bride stands alone.

She is hidden like a shadow upon a dark and barren rock.

She hears the ruckus of foreigners in her secret garden.

Her tabernacle is defiled.

Her heart is broken into shards, like the tablets of the Torah.

Instruction has gone out and returns no more.

The voice of the prophet of The Name has become a whisper.

My eyes are tears, my lifeblood is mud on the ground.

The holy children were tossed like fuel into the fires.

My chastisement is complete, I am beaten.

Until the last hour I will breath only ashes.

The city of life is overthrown.

You, The Name, have done this, to save us from evil dreams.

We listened for seduction and hungered for vanity.

How gorgeous Zion was!

The crown of perfect beauty was prepared for her head.

Creation held its breath in joy.

With excitement the heavens anticipated her crowning.

But her crown was thrown down into the filth.

Now evil celebrates and laughs.

Those who love good hold their breath in pain.

Those who love good fast and mourn.

Only evil can sing now.

Is this the city of God?  Is this the city of Truth?

Where is the great revelation?

Where is the final word?

Where is her voice, the voice of the chosen bride?

The alien rules over the holy place, the heart of the world.

The Name Himself has allowed the alien to rule; He knows the end of it.

The alien proclaims his triumph.

He claims he has swallowed the chosen one up.

By his boasting he builds an empire.

When we are corrected we will speak.

When we speak the alien will speak no more.

He will open his mouth and reveal his emptiness.

Dry the tears of the night, cry out with prayer.

Pour your heart out like water before the face of Truth.

Lift up eyes of hope before The Name.

Cry out for the unborn.

Pray they not be born into the holocaust.

What is this, oh Blessed Holy One?

Shall the mother's sorrow devour her young?

Shall Your two Jerusalem witnesses be slain and never rise again?

You have slaughtered the young as if they were old.

The old die in horror; they wish they were never born.

Through Your love for correcting Zion You set a trap for the evil one.

No one whose heart has sinned escapes Your Hand.

You turn Your Hand against me again and again all through the day.

You have shattered my bones like glass and worn away their flesh.

For the sake of Your Name, remember what has happened to us.

We are orphans without You.

Our mother is a widow.

We have given Your honor to our kidnappers.

Our inheritance was life, but we have inherited death.

The servants of our parents have become our masters.

We cannot escape their hand of hatred.

Our homelessness consumes us like cancer.

The maidens of Zion were the pure light of hope.

They have been defiled in the open.

The young Torah princes are mocked as fools.

The Torah masters are pitied.

You cultivated your children to become rulers, wise saviors.

They die as manual laborers.

The knowledge of justice is forgotten.

Musical talents are taken from the young.

Our heart is repelled by joy.

Dancing is an insult to our mourning.

Woe unto us! Woe upon woe!

We have sinned beyond description.

The Temple of Salvation has vanished.

The sly fox has built his den upon the Temple mount.

This is our most painful correction.

It is according to Your word, therefore I have hope.

You are forever the G-d of Zion.

Your mercy is without measure towards the daughter of Your eye.

Your Name is a throne and a spring of the water of life.

You said to me, "Do not be afraid!" when I cried out to You.

With gentleness You have redeemed my life.

Still I am in chains; the master of cruelty smiles over me.

Who could believe that the alien would make his home in Jerusalem?

Ages pile upon ages and still you do not remember us.

We do not know why...

The ox gored us in the wilderness.

The lion hunted us as prey in the mountain.

And the eagle tore the flesh from our white bones.

We have turned our cheek to the destroyers of the earth.

The breath was knocked out of us.

The Anointed One was knocked out of our nostrils.

The daughter of Zion fell breathless.

The daughter of Edom will breathe a fire that consumes her.

Open now to us the hidden door of Your Presence!

Part the clouds before the inner most sanctuary of prayer!

And save the prisoners of the earth...

Lift our faces out of darkness with the light of Your eyes!

Name Above All Names, turn our hearts toward You...

We will confess anew, as in the days of Moses long ago,

You are Love and Truth and Eternal Life.

There is none besides You!
