750 ml. rosé wine
1/2 cup vodka
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
2 navel oranges, quartered
1 lemon, quartered
I suggest a moderately-priced French wine as silk purses are not made out of sow’s ears. Combine all ingredients in a large jar, cover and let stand in a cool, dark place or refrigerator for up to 2 weeks shaking every few days. Strain through cheesecloth and funnel into glass bottles. Cork and refrigerate for up to 1 year. Can substitute Seville oranges for navel oranges and increase sugar a bit; the result will be more bitter. Terrific served on the rocks with soda water to taste. Do not serve to soccer parents under any circumstances.
