-ing와 자주 사용하는 표현들입니다. 이 표현들은 많이 사용할 뿐만 아니라 거의 관용적인 표현이므로 자주 연습해서 몸에 붙여두는 것이 좋습니다.
There's no point in ... ~ 할 의미가 없다:
There's no point in having a car if you never use it.
There was no point in waiting any longer, so we left.
There's no use / It's no use ...: ~ 하는 것이 소용없다:
There's nothing you can do about the situation, so there's no use worrying about it.
It's no good ...: ~ 하는 것이 좋지 않다:
It's no good trying to persuade me. You won't succeed.
It's (not) worth ...: ~ 할 가치가 있다(없다):
I live only a short walk from here, so it's not worth taking a taxi.
It was so late when we got home, it wasn't worth going to bed.
"a movie is worth seeing" "a book is worth reading"과 같은 표현도 사용할 수 있습니다:
What was the movie like? Was it worth seeing?
I don't think newspapers are worth reading.
Have trouble/difficulty -ing: ~에 문제/어려움이 있다:
Did you have any trouble getting a visa?
People often have great trouble reading my writing.
I had difficulty finding a place to live. (not I had difficulty to find)
a waste of money / a waste of time (경우에 따라 to도 사용 가능합니다.):
That book was trash. It was a waste of time reading it. (or ... to read it)
It's a waste of money buying things you don't need. (or ... to buy things you don't need)
spend/waste (시간):
He spent hours trying to repair the clock.
I waste a lot of time daydreaming.
(be) busy:
She said she couldn't see me. She was too busy doing other things.
여기에서 busy는 형용사입니다. 그러므로 형용사의 목적어로 사용된 do는 doing이 되어야 합니다.
go swimming / go fishing 등
Go -ing는 스포츠 같은 활동에 대해 사용합니다. (go swimming / go sailing / go fishing / go hiking / go skiing / go jogging 등) 그리고 go shopping / go sightseeing에도 사용합니다:
I'd like to go skiing.
When was the last time you went shopping?
I've never gone sailing.
