1. 동사 + at
look / have a look / take a look / stare / glance AT ...:
Why are you looking at me like that?
laugh/smile AT ...:
I look awful with this haircut. Everybody will laugh at me.
aim/point (something) AT ..., shoot/fire (a gun) AT ... (= in the direction of):
Don't point that knife at me. It's dangerous.
We saw someone with a gun shooting at birds, but he didn't hit any.
2. 동사 + to
talk/speak TO (somebody) (with도 가능하긴 하지만 일반적이지는 않음):
Who was that man you were talking to?
Can I speak to Jane, plese?
listen TO ...:
We spent the evening listening to music. (not listening music)
invite somebody TO (a party / a wedding 등):
They only invited a few people to their wedding.
3. at/to와 함께 의미가 변하는 동사
어떤 동사들은 at 또는 to의 사용에 따라 의미가 달라집니다.
shout AT somebody (화가 났을 때):
She got very angry and started shouting at me.
shout TO somebody (잘 들리게 하기 위하여):
She shouted to me from the other side of the street.
throw something AT somebody/something (맞추기 위하여):
Somebody threw an egg at the politician.
throw something TO somebody (상대가 받게 하려고):
Julie shouted, "Catch!" and threw the keys to me from the window.
4. Explain/describe/apologize
explain something (TO somebody):
Can you explain this word to me? (not explain me this word)
explain (to somebody) that/what/how/why ...:
I explained to them what I wanted them to do. (not I explained them)
describe도 explain과 비슷합니다:
Let me describe to you what I saw.
apologize TO somebody (for ...):
He apologized to me. (not He apologized me.)
thank somebody (for something), ask somebody (for something):
He asked me for money. (not He asked to me)
