3rd Ypres - Summary

Fighting tanks - Supply and Radio tanks discussed below the table.

Notes:

Failed to start includes tanks that were hit at the start point.

Rallied does not include tanks that are included in the "Did not start", the "ditched / broke down" or the "Knocked out" columns. Some of these tanks rallied or were recovered later.

The Official History (1917 Vol 2. p.179) states 117 tanks went into action on the 31st July, 77 of these ditched or broke down, 42 were total losses.

On 21 Sept none of the tanks may have made the start.

On 4 October one tank failed to reach the start point but both reserve tanks attacked.

Indications are that all companies were allocated two supply tanks, it is unclear how many of these saw action in the supply role on 31st July.

During the battle "C" and "F" Battalions both deployed Radio tanks, "G" Battalion deployed two Cable pullers, one of which also carried a radio.
