Note the following information is from Glanfield, John (2001). Devils Chariots (S3). Appendixes (p275ff) unless otherwise stated.
All tanks were assigned a unique Serial number before they left the factory [ incorrectly called a War department (WD) number by John Glanfield ]. These were often displayed on the hull of the tank.
The assigned numbers were as follows:
Mk I (150: 75 m, 75 f))
Male : 701 – 775
Female: 501 – 575
Mark II (50: 25 m, 20 f, 5 test))
Male : 776 – 800 (25)
Female: 576 – 600 (25)
Mark III (50)
Male : 801 - 825
Female: 601 – 625
Mk IV (1015, 420 m, 595 f; plus 205 supply tanks (note the total number of Mark IV completed is the subject of some debate)
