Notes

512 is the number given for both D21 and C24 in Tanks at Flers (S1) , the author has assigned it to D21

C24 - 15th Sept 1916 – 2Lt HRC Cole – Guards Division – Broke down at HQ (S1) – Possibly 505

C25 - 15th Sept 1916 - Reserve tank broken up for parts (S1)

Ten spare tanks also shipped to France, possibly including 703 and 541 ( 2Lt Storey's new D4).

Tank A9 (unknown production number) also from G Battalion to Central Workshops No.2 Salvage Co. on 11th July 1917 (W32)

537 name from information revived from Stephen Pope (SP)

125 tanks (possibly 19 MkIIs in this number) shipped to France by March 1918 (s4.p267)

8 Mk Is shipped to Palestine from Bovington. Probably drawn from 15 training tanks

15 Mk Is kept in England for Driver Training (S11.p64)(S3.p176)

555 Kept as Testbed.

Total =149.

Production Notes

110 Tanks completed by September 1st 1916; then a three week stop in tank production whilst spare parts made. (S3.p151)

Assume 55 Male and 55 Female.

Tanks numbered prior to leaving factory.

Metropolitan built all Females and 38 Males. Fosters built other 38 Males.

Presumably Fosters started numbering at 739.

Therefore by Sept 1st Females 501 -555 and Males 701-728 and 738 -765 completed.

Tanks with other numbers probably start to arrive in France at the Start of October.
