The MkIV was really an improved Mk I , designed to fill the need for tanks until improved versions could be built. The Mk IV was fitted with Lewis Guns, though Central workshops fitted at least 6 female tanks with Hotchkiss guns on 8th March 1918. (CW) 7th and 12th Battalions' records indicate the fighting Mk IV continued to use Lewis Guns until the end of the war.
