Williams

Fellow, Psychological Counseling Services

Student Health Services

Psychological Counseling Services (PCS) at Williams College offers post-graduate students in counseling, social work, and psychology the opportunity for advanced clinical training with a (10 month/year), two-year fellowship in college mental health. The Fellowship is intended to promote diversity by encouraging candidates from under-represented groups and/or those with a demonstrated interest in diversity, social justice, and multi-culturalism to pursue careers in college mental health. Through direct clinical experience, individual and group supervision, and didactic seminars, fellows will gain experience learning to identify, formulate, and treat the emotional difficulties unique to a college population. In addition to providing the students with confidential psychological services, PCS is an integral part of the college community and is engaged in a number of outreach activities. Outreach activities include educational events, consultation to student and staff groups, and opportunities for students to meet more informally with PCS staff. The fellowship program provides an opportunity to conduct individual psychotherapy, with the possibility for in-depth psychotherapy.

Responsibilities:

• Provide evaluation, treatment planning and individual psychotherapy for students seeking services at PCS.

• Co-facilitating group psychotherapy with a staff therapist; in the past, groups have included process-oriented groups and mindfulness groups

• Providing night on-call and daytime emergency walk-in services one day a week and approximately 4 weekends over the course of the academic year

• Becoming involved in various outreach activities, these include, organizing educational events, consulting student groups, co-sponsoring events with other departments, and staffing informal drop-in hours for students

• Supervising pre-graduate interns and teach in the didactic seminar series during their second year

• Participating in various administrative meetings, such as Dean’s Meeting and At-risk Committee, to gain experience in college mental health administration during their second year

This Fellowship program runs from September to June, and candidates must have completed all degree requirements and a clinical internship prior to the beginning of their appointment. Preferred candidates will have a strong demonstrated interest and commitment to diversity and mental health practice within a college setting.
