Subject: Clinical and Research Postdoctoral Fellowships in CBT at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School

We are accepting applications for two post-doctoral positions at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School in the Behavioral Health Partial (BHP) Hospital Program for 2014-2015. One is primarily research focused and the other primarily clinical. Both positions are for one year with start dates of July 1, 2014 – but is negotiable.

The Behavioral Health Partial (BHP) Hospital Program, is a large partial hospital program (>800 admissions per year) specializing in short-term evidence-based CBT/DBT skills for severe psychiatric patient populations with mood and anxiety disorders, borderline personality disorder, thought disorders, and myriad comorbid conditions. This clinical program thoroughly integrates clinical service, training, and research. It is the primary training site for the McLean/Harvard APA approved pre-doctoral psychology internship.

Both positions include:

Clinical training: Responsibilities include providing short-term group and individual CBT/DBT skills to patients with a wide range of complex and often comorbid conditions. Extensive supervision and mentoring are core components of postdoctoral training. The postdoctoral fellow will accrue enough clinical hours to apply for licensure at the conclusion of the training year.

Career development: Supervising/mentoring of trainees, learning administrative functions related to clinical training and patient care, program development.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Clinical/Counseling Psychology with strong scientist-clinician training, solid background in CBT, interest in treatment outcome research and scholarly writing.

Salary: Excellent benefit package. The successful candidate will be proposed for academic appointment as a Clinical Fellow in Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School.

Research opportunities include coordinating the program’s ongoing naturalistc treatment outcome study, and working closely with the Research Psychologist (Dr. Courtney Beard), research assistant and program director. Fellows are encouraged to develop one’s own line of research, as well as to utilize existing extensive data sets. The postdoctoral fellow will also have opportunities to join ongoing research projects, grants, and submit research reports for publication. The Research fellow leads a diagnostic interviewing training and reliability seminar for pre-doctoral practicum and intern students.

Clinical Fellowship:

In addition to the clinical training responsibilities described above, the Clinical Focus Fellow coordinates the clinical training of four 9-month pre-doctoral practicum students. This includes coordinating the seminar series, provide group and individual supervision as well as providing professional mentorship for the students. The clinical fellow is also actively involved in assisting with program development and managing the clinical milieu at the BHP. Furthermore, the clinical fellow is strongly encouraged to participate in the program’s ongoing treatment outcome research and other research opportunities. Additionally, the clinical fellow has opportunities to teach seminars to psychology and medical students as well as psychiatry residents.
