Adolescent Unit

: Fellowship Opportunity

Dear Training Directors:

My name is Anna Goodearl. I am the new director of the Adolescent Unit Psychoeducational Treatment Program at the Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The Adolescent Unit Psychoeducational Treatment Program serves patients ages 12-21, providing twice weekly, one-on-one academic remediation and support. Our patients have typically experienced chronic school failure due to severe learning disabilities as well as neurodevelopmental and other co-morbid disorders. The objective of the treatment program is to provide psychologically-guided academic remediation. Each patient is provided with an individualized treatment plan to address not only basic skills deficits but also relevant factors such as motivation, academic self-esteem, and attention. The program utilizes evidenced-based academic remediation techniques in addition to behavioral modifications/strategies in order to help patients attain their goals.

The Adolescent Unit Psychoeducational Treatment Program provides a limited number of paid fellowship opportunities to graduate students in psychology and related fields. Graduate students at all levels of their training are welcome to apply. Benefits from participating in such a training opportunity include the following: hours of clinical experience with adolescents with a variety of learning needs and other co-morbid disorders; training in remediation strategies and behavioral interventions; participation in team meetings, core lectures, and grand rounds; and weekly individual supervision with a licensed psychologist.

The fellowship begins September 8, 2015 and runs until June 10, 2016. Training will be provided on-site including a three-week group orientation in September followed by weekly one-on-one supervision. Each fellow will carry a caseload of three patients for whom they will provide individual treatment twice weekly. A minimum of two days per week are required.

Please distribute this fellowship opportunity to your students. A descriptive flyer is attached. Interested applicants should forward a cover letter, two letters of reference, and their résumé /curriculum vitae electronically to Dr. Anna Goodearl (anna.goodearl@einstein.yu.edu). Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions about the program (718-430-3907).

Warm regards,
