Postdoctoral Psychology Fellow Position - Early Treatment Program (Psychosis)/Behavioral Health College Partnership

The Early Treatment Program and the Behavioral Health College Partnership are adult outpatient centers within the Department of Psychiatry.

Early Treatment Program (ETP). Early Treatment Program is a state funded clinical and research program dedicated to youth ages 15-35 with early stage psychotic illness. The ETP works in collaboration with the Psychiatry Research Department, which means several NIMH-funded research programs that focus on serious neuropsychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia (including early-onset schizophrenia and the prodrome), obsessive-compulsive disorder, and bipolar disorder, among others.

Early Treatment Program responsibilities include a caseload of individual/family therapy cases as well as leading a recovery group and co-leading a monthly family support group. The ETP fellow will also conduct weekly intake assessments as well as structured interviews, including the SCID, with individuals enrolled in ETP. Opportunities for the Fellow to provide supervision to other ETP trainees may be available.

Behavioral Health College Partnership (BHCP). The Behavioral Health College Partnership (BHCP) is a unique community service program that works closely with over 27 affiliated colleges and universities and their student counseling centers to address behavioral health issues impacting undergraduate and graduate students. BHCP collaborates to provide state-of-the-art evaluation and evidence-based treatment for psychiatric crisis and the aftermath, as well as diverse challenges ranging from adjustment problems to major disorders emerging during the transition to college life.

The Behavioral Health College Partnership fellowship provides experience with the college population in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. BHCP experienced supervisors will provide specialized training and supervision in the assessment and treatment of college students within a cognitive behavioral framework. Fellow responsibilities will include intake assessment, individual and group outpatient therapy, group inpatient therapy and crisis intervention. Fellows will receive intensive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training with a concentration on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills.

ETP/BHCP Fellowship. The ETP/BHCP Fellow will be a member of a large, multidisciplinary team and participate in weekly clinical meetings and didactics. This Fellow will have the opportunity to participate in weekly Grand Rounds at Zucker Hillside Hospital. Fellow responsibilities and supervision will fulfill criteria for the postdoctoral year of experience necessary for NYS Psychology licensure.

Candidates of the 2014-2015 ETP/BHCP post-doctoral fellowship must have completed course study and dissertation defense in an APA-accredited PhD or PsyD doctoral program in clinical psychology, completed an APA-accredited Psychology Internship Program, and have experience in evidence-based treatment. Candidates must be eligible for the NYS Limited Permit in Psychology. Strong CBT skills, proficiency conducting SCID assessments, and prior clinical experience and commitment to working with individuals within the populations served by the ETP and BHCP is advantageous.

The fellowship is one-year, from July 1, 2014 - June 30 2015. Fellows will be provided with benefits, vacation days, sick days, and personal days. The Fellowship salary is competitive.

Postdoctoral Psychology Fellow – OCD/Bipolar Center: We have an opening July 1, 2014 for a candidate with an interest in cultivating clinical skills in the areas of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Bipolar Disorder to be a part of multidisciplinary and quickly growing Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Centers at Zucker Hillside Hospital of Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Candidates must have completed the doctorate in psychology and be eligible for the Limited Permit in Psychology. Roles will include supervised clinical and administrative duties with opportunities to work with a large psychiatric research department. Ideal candidates will have experience with evidence-based treatments in the areas of Bipolar Disorder and Anxiety Disorders as well as strong organizational skills. Individual and group supervision will be provided by experts in treatment of OCD and Bipolar Disorder. Responsibilities and supervision will fulfill criteria for the postdoctoral year of experience necessary for NYS Psychology licensure. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Early Phase Psychosis, The Zucker-Hillside Hospital, North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System (NS-LIJHS)

Zucker Hillside Hospital’s (ZHH) Early Treatment Program (ETP) anticipates an opening for a two-year adolescent and young adult postdoctoral research fellowship to begin in July, 2014. The ETP is a state funded clinical and research program dedicated to youth with early stage psychotic illness. It is one of the centers of specialization within the adult outpatient department at Zucker Hillside Hospital. The ZHH is the psychiatric division of the North Shore – Long Island Jewish Health System located in a 32-acre park-like campus on Long Island, New York. ETP works in collaboration with the Psychiatry Research Department which maintains several NIMH-funded research programs that focus on serious neuropsychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia (including early-onset schizophrenia and the prodrome), obsessive-compulsive disorder and bipolar disorder, among others. Major programmatic emphases include neuropsychology, neurophysiology, neuroimaging, genetics, psychopharmacology and rehabilitation. The Fellow will be a member of the large multidisciplinary ETP team. Responsibilities include conducting standardized clinical and neuropsychological assessment with individuals enrolled in the Early Treatment Program. Several opportunities for collaboration with ongoing first episode psychosis research studies exist. Postdoctoral Psychology Fellow in Inpatient Psychiatry: We have openings beginning in September 2014 for candidates with strong clinical and interpersonal skills to work in our general adult Acute Care Inpatient Psychiatry units at The Zucker Hillside Hospital of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. The Zucker Hillside Hospital is located on the campus of Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Glen Oaks, New York on the border of Queens and Nassau counties and serves a very diverse patient population.

Candidates must have completed the doctorate in clinical, counseling, or school psychology and be eligible for the Limited Permit in Psychology. We are looking for candidates with internship and externship experiences that emphasize inpatient care of persons with serious mental illness. Clinical duties include individual and CBT oriented group therapy conducted under supervision with a special focus on managing the difficult, aggressive patient in an inpatient milieu setting. Psychological assessments, crisis intervention, behavioral planning, and working with the multidisciplinary treatment team will also be emphasized during the year. Strong consideration will be given to those with prior inpatient experience. The ability to work with different disciplines as well as being creative in addressing difficult scenarios is essential. Responsibilities and supervision will fulfill criteria for the postdoctoral year of experience necessary for New York State Psychology licensure.
