Child Mind Post Doc Anx/Mood Dis

The Child Mind Institute is seeking a full-time clinical post-doctoral fellow within our Anxiety and Mood Disorders Center. The candidate should possess exceptional clinical skills in the assessment of children and adolescents who have anxiety and mood disorders. The fellow should have significant cognitive and behavioral therapy training and/or dialectical behavior therapy training. The fellow is expected to perform semi-structured clinical assessments, provide treatment to children and adolescents, provide parental support via psycho-education and parent training and participate in multidisciplinary team case conferences.

The Child Mind Institute is the nation's only independent nonprofit institution exclusively dedicated to transforming mental healthcare for children and adolescents. We are committed to finding more effective treatments for childhood psychiatric and learning disorders, building the science of healthy brain development, and empowering children and their families to get help, hope, and answers. We are located in midtown Manhattan in a new state-of-the-art child and family friendly facility. Last year we evaluated and treated more than 2,000 patients from across the globe between the ages of 3 and 24 in our multidisciplinary clinical practice. In addition, the Child Mind Institute has robust research initiatives and many comprehensive public education programs including childmind.org and Speak Up for Kids.

The Anxiety and Mood Disorders Center is one of three programs that comprise the rapidly expanding Clinical Program of the Child Mind Institute. The Center offers innovative, unique treatment services for children and adolescents suffering from anxiety and mood disorders. The Intensive Pediatric Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders Program, which has successfully treated children and adolescents from across the country and internationally, evaluated more than 100 children and teens with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) this past academic year.

Fellowship

The Anxiety and Mood Disorders Center offers a two-year, full-time postdoctoral fellowship, which begins on July 1, 2014. Fellowship training focuses on the accurate diagnosis and use of evidence-based treatment for children, adolescents, and their families, with experiences including clinical work, didactics, and exposure to research.

Clinical Opportunities

The Anxiety and Mood Disorders Center offers an extraordinary opportunity for a qualified clinician to receive structured post-doctoral training in a unique, innovative academic setting. Fellows will have the opportunity to perform our distinctive, structured and comprehensive initial evaluations to establish accurate diagnosis and develop appropriate treatment plans. Evaluations include the use of semi-structured interviews and clinical and behavioral rating scales for children, parents and teachers.

Additionally, the post doctoral fellow will carry a full caseload of patients and gain experience with a variety of disorders including OCD, separation anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, selective mutism, panic disorder, social phobia, specific phobias, and other pediatric conditions.

Fellows will participate in Fearless Friends, our innovative intensive treatment camp for children with phobias and/or OCD, and will participate in our world-renowned Brave Buddies program, an intensive treatment for children with selective mutism. Treatment methods employed during this fellowship include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and other innovative, evidenced-based approaches to therapy. The fellow will receive weekly group and individual supervision.

Didactics

As a component of the training experience, the post-doctoral fellow will also participate in a variety of learning experiences at the Child Mind Institute. Specifically, fellows will attend a weekly multidisciplinary case conference, as well as clinical meetings with center staff. Fellows will also be given the opportunity to supervise externs and volunteers and give presentations at schools and local community organizations. Additionally, there will also be opportunities to collaborate with website writers on specific topics for the Child Mind Institute website and with other services within the Child Mind Institute. Training is available in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), reading or writing remediation and CogMed working memory training.

Qualifications

  • PhD or PsyD degree from an APA - accredited program in clinical psychology or related field.
  • Successful completion of APA - accredited internship.
  • Flexibility to work hours to meet productivity goals and deadlines.
  • Team player and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated professional attitude and ability to interface with senior management, clinicians and staff.
