March 2015: Yael Muskat, Psy.D.

Dr. Yael Muskat received her PsyD in clinical psychology in 1999. Her dissertation was entitled: Social Information Processing in Batterers: A Treatment Outcome Study. Dr. Muskat wears a multitude of hats in her personal and professional lives. She has worked hard to increase awareness of mental illness in the religious Jewish community, and decrease stigma for those seeking help. In a religious and traditional community, stigma around mental illness still persists, and Dr. Muskat fights to eliminate this with her work. In 2006 she became the associate director of Yeshiva University’s Counseling Center that caters to the Stern College for Women and the Benjamin N. Cordozo School of Law. In August 2012, she was appointed the director of the Yeshiva University Counseling Center for the entire Manhattan campus. She has remained in this position since, and works hard to increase access to mental health services for Yeshiva’s students. Dr. Muskat also has a private practice in Oceanside, NY where she lives with her family. She is the mother of five children, and her husband is the Rabbi of the Young Israel of Oceanside, making her the Rebettzin of the community, or the female spiritual leader. As the director of a university counseling center, a therapist, a mother, and a community leader, Dr. Muskat juggles a number of important endeavors. LIU Post is proud to call her an alumnus.
