October 2012: Vincent Passarelli, Psy.D.

Dr. Passarelli currently works as a supervising psychologist at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Traumatic Stress Studies Division, a clinical research program that studies the underlying biology and clinical recovery from trauma. Dr. Passarelli provides comprehensive evaluations and treatment for trauma survivors and their families, including working with combat veterans, Holocaust survivors and their children.

He also works as a clinical psychologist in the Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome Clinic at the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Bronx. Dr. Passarelli provides trauma-focused therapy and assistance for returning veterans transitioning from military services. In addition, he provides consultations for various institutions, including NIMH funded research grants, and has co-authored publications in the area of personality development and assessment.

Dr. Passarelli also has an interest in Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, which he provides to adolescents, adults and families at Cognitive Behavioral Associates in Great Neck, Long Island. He works with program co-founders Drs. Jill Rathus and Ruth DeRosa, and also has a private practice in Manhattan.

Dr. Passarelli received a Bachelors of Science in Management and Finance from CUNY, Brooklyn College in 1993. He received his Doctorate from CW Post in 2004. His dissertation focused on the Adaptation of DBT in Partner Violence.

While at Post, Dr. Passarelli worked as an extern for the Comprehensive Day Treatment Program at the Northport VAMC. During his second externship, he worked at the Zucker Hillside Hospital- Adult Outpatient and Geriatric Day Treatment Center as well as the Psychological Services Center on Post’s campus, where he provided Dialectical Behavior Therapy for court-mandated and self-referred men with domestic violence histories. Dr. Passarelli completed his internship in North Shore University Hospital’s Adult Track with a rotation in the Child and Adolescent Clinic.

Upon graduating, Dr. Passarelli worked for the Bronx Veterans Medical Foundation and Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s Mood and Personality Research Program, where he provided outpatient DBT and assisted with the adaptation of DBT for a substance use day treatment center. In addition, he performed comprehensive evaluations specific to the treatment and etiology of personality development and structure.
