DBT Fellowship

Name of Program: Community (DBT Focus) Psychology Fellowship

General Description: The Community (DBT Focus) Psychology Fellowship is a one-year, full-time training opportunity for one Fellow per year. The Fellowship combines: (1) Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in both individual and group formats to adolescents and their families in the CFI-OPD; (2) Outpatient psychotherapy with children, adolescents and families in the CFI-OPD; and (3) Psychotherapy with children and adolescents in school-based satellite mental health clinics, within local elementary and high schools. The goals of the Fellowship are to develop: (1) expertise in DBT; and (2) clinical skills with at-risk populations. The DBT Focus Fellow completes an intensive didactic course in DBT.

CFI-OPD Component: offers intake evaluation, crisis intervention, psychopharmacologic management, individual therapy, family therapy, parent-infant centered therapy, group therapy and neuropsychological assessment, to children, adolescents and families. Fellows provide individual, group, and family therapies to children, adolescents and families. Fellows also provide one hour of weekly supervision to an extern.

School-Based Mental Health Clinics Component: The CFI-OPD collaborates with the NYC Department of Education (DOE), NYSDOH and the St. Luke’s Roosevelt Departments of Pediatrics and Urban Family Practice to provide school-based mental health services in Manhattan. A full continuum of services are provided, including urgent evaluations; individual, group, and family therapies; focused diagnostic assessment; crisis intervention; psycho- management; and prevention activities, and consultation.

Didactics offered: All Child/Adolescent Psychology Fellows participate in a weekly supervision course; a bi-weekly case conference and professional development seminar; and monthly journal club.

Qualifications: Fellows must have completed their dissertation defense in an APA-accredited Ph.D. or Psy.D program in clinical, counseling, school or combined school/clinical psychology, and completed their APA-accredited psychology internship.
