NYU Child Study Center

Post-doctoral fellowship/Junior faculty position in NYC

The NYU Child Study Center, a clinical research center specializing in treatment of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders, is currently recruiting for a unique post-doctoral fellowship which includes a transition to a junior faculty position, starting in August or September 2014. The NYU Child Study Center is part of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of the New York University School of Medicine.

For the first time, the NYU Child Study Center is offering a two-year position in which the first year is considered a Post Doctoral Fellowship and the second year is a junior faculty position. This position is in The Anita Saltz Institute for Anxiety and Mood Disorders, which provides advanced training in empirically supported cognitive behavioral treatment approaches with children and adolescents who present with internalizing disorders; the fellow will work under the mentorship of Aleta Angelosante, Ph.D. Specialty training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy will also be provided under the mentorship of Samuel Fasulo, Ph.D.

During the post-doctoral year, the fellow will participate in a rich didactic program, receive supervision from multiple supervisors, conduct diagnostic assessments, and provide empirically-supported treatments to youth with anxiety and mood disorders. The fellow will also be a full participant in the Adolescent DBT Service, which will include carrying adolescent DBT cases, co-leading DBT groups as appropriate, and participating in the weekly DBT Consultation Team meeting. Some familiarity with DBT is preferred but not required. In addition, the fellow will have the opportunity to teach and to provide supervision to an extern and may have the opportunity to participate in clinical research. Fellows enjoy active collaboration with and participation in the Center's other Institutes. Individualized training programs are designed to take into account the Fellow's long-term career goals. Candidates should have a strong background in cognitive behavioral interventions.

Once the fellow has accumulated all necessary hours for licensure and obtains a NY State license, he/she will be promoted to a junior faculty position. During this 2nd year, the candidate will continue to have the opportunity to teach and supervise along with providing clinical care and diagnostic assessment. The candidate will spend this year building a clinical caseload and, if interested, developing a specialty area within the Child Study Center. At the end of the second year, the candidate may be offered a position to stay on as a full member of the faculty group practice.

This position requires completion of an APA-approved internship and a doctoral degree from an APA program. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with review of applications beginning December 16th and continuing until the position is filled. Please submit a letter of interest, CV, three letters of recommendation, and a clinical work sample (treatment summary/diagnostic evaluation) to Lori Evans, Ph.D., Director of Psychology Training, NYU Child Study Center, One Park Avenue, New York, NY 10016 or via email at Lori.Evans@nyumc.org.
