Why is showing empathy so difficult?

Autistic people don't show empathy in the same way that others do. This has resulted in a lot of false truths including the idea that they don't feel empathy, don't feel pain or are unable to reciprocate love. What we now know to be true is the opposite. They understand feel emotions very intensely. The problem is in the communication of their empathy.
