Self Diagnosis

Aspergers \ Self-Diagnosis

Could you be on the Spectrum?

Short of seeing a psychiatric doctor, there's no way to be 100% sure that you have autism or Asperger's but there are some surprisingly accurate tests about.

The short answer is:

  • For kids, you should always seek a professional if you can.

  • For adults in continuing education, it's recomended that you see a professional.

  • For all other adults, it's usually not worth while.

This page explains why.

The RDOS Quiz is probably the most well known of the Asperger's Quiz sites. It's looking quite dated now and I don't know if it supports https (web security). Neverthless, provided that you don't put personally identifiable information there, it should be safe. It has the best diagnostic algorithm on web.

I've often been asked by people what the results of a diagnosed person look like in the RDOS test. So here are my results.

Autism and Aspergers are rarely "lone travellers", here's a list of common co-conditions and some articles to go with them.

Often, the worst of the problems with Aspergers and autism stem from the co-conditions rather than the main condition. You can often address co-conditions with medication or therapy.

These are links to various sources on the web. They don't have anything to do with me but I've found some of them to be useful over the years.
