Finding and Keeping a Partner

The articles on this page are all about finding the right partner, communicating effectively and resolving relationship issues.

Over the years, I've written extensively on relationships. It's probably the most discussed topic on my blog. You'll find series articles on this page but if you keep scrolling down, you'll eventually also find individual posts.

Resolving Relationship Issues (Marriage Encounters)

These articles are about "what to do when it all seems to be going wrong". Marriage Encounters is a worldwide organisation dedicated to helping couples resolve their difficulties and stay together. It's much cheaper than hiring a counsellor and I feel that it's far more effective. If you want to book a weekend, go to the Marriage Encounters site.

Using Letter Writing to Problem Solve

Often it is quite difficult for a couple in a relationship to communicate effectively. This is particularly true of mixed relationships containing a Neurotypical "normal" person and an autistic person.

Letter writing is a very effective means of solving that problem as it removes most of the non-verbal cues which aspies miss while encouraging couples to collaborate and compromise rather than argue.

This three part series explores the reason it is effective and things that partners can do to more effectively reach out to each other when writing. It concludes by providing a very tried and tested method for resolving relationship difficulties via letter writing.

Finding Conversational Balance

This series is about changing both sides of an AS/NT relationship to reach a point where verbal and non-verbal conversations with your significant other mutually beneficial.

Why do Aspies Suddenly Back off in Relationships?

The relationship is going very well and everyone seems happy, then suddenly one of the partners backs off completely and you're wondering "what did I do wrong?"
