Wall-E

Score 5.5/10

Wall-E – Another game directed at kids, based on the movie of the same name.  This game is available for the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.

The story in this game is identical to the movie:  you’re a robot cleaning up a dirty planet.  The first few levels have no enemies, just the gameplay.  You travel from Point A to Point B and between Points A and B, of course, there are obstacles.  These simple obstacles will have you throwing garbage and collecting objects.  The objects are scattered around the level, which might seem like a fun scavenger hunt, but the map ruins it.  Like a lot of games, there is a map in the top right hand corner of the screen, showing the exact location of every object.  The only challenge is having the patience to go through the levels.

As you move along in the story, you’re more or less limited.  There are enemies, but it’s the same boring gameplay.  What happens after you’re done the story?  Well, you can go back to collect any unlockables you didn’t get.  It’s unlikely any were missed though, since all the hidden items are in sparkling piles of dirt.  In your straightforward path to Point B, you’ll see all of them easily.

There’s also multiplayer, but the game loses its charm when your happy-go-lucky Wall-E is in a deathmatch, shooting others with lasers.

Kids might love this game.  It’s a short, comical game best played alone.  Everything, except the cutscenes, is under par.  Kids who are willing to sit down and solve simple puzzles will love this game, but kids who want a challenge or have a short attention span will not.  It’s another game directed at young kids.
