Guitar Hero Aerosmith

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

Rating: T

Score: 9.0

Guitar Hero games have always been all about great music, so making a game with a hit band sounds like a great idea. This game is available for the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.

Neither Guitar Hero nor Aerosmith need an introduction. Here’s a quick recap anyway: Guitar Hero is a rhythm-based game played by hitting colored buttons to match the colored button showing on your tv screen. Aerosmith is a hit band that’s been around for a while, with many hit songs adored by everyone. Putting the two together seems like a guaranteed winner.

The gameplay is the same as it has always been in the Guitar Hero series. The only difference is that the music is based on Aerosmith. Most songs (about 70% of them) are made famous by Aerosmith themselves, the rest are songs liked by Aerosmith and inspired by Aerosmith. That’s a lot of Aerosmith! In fact, how much you’ll like this game is more based on how much you like Aerosmith, than how much you like the series.

On stage, the character animation is a lot livelier than the previous Guitar Hero. Steven Tyler (the singer) will walk and jump around the stage, and play with the microphone like it’s a guitar. Of course, like the previous games, the lead guitarist (Joe Perry) will pose and impress the audience.

There are 41 songs total. Not a horrible amount, but nothing amazing, especially since Guitar Hero 3 had over 70 songs. Unlike Guitar Hero 3, though, you’re getting a lot of great, well-known hits, and not a lot of everything from all kinds of bands. Songs like “Walk This Way,” “Livin’ On The Edge,” and “Rag Doll” are only some of the major hits from Aerosmith.

The multiplayer options in Guitar Hero 3 are included, but nothing more. You have co-op, face-off, pro face-off, battle, and online. It’s great that they kept all the options, but one or two new ones would have gone a long way.

Even with all that said, how much you enjoy the game depends on how much you enjoy the band. If you’ll looking for the next big Guitar Hero game and you don’t like Aerosmith, maybe wait for Guitar Hero World Tour. If you’re looking for the next big Guitar Hero and you do like Aerosmith, this game will impress.
